My personal favourite fanfics

This is a collection of all my favourite fanfics, including all genres and fandoms (but 98% Sherlock, I guess). These are basically the ones that really had an effect on me, they made me cry or laugh or scream at my computer or possibly all of this together. I sorted them according to the ships (I made this effort for you! Yes, YOU!)

The description for each goes like this:

A modern day school!AU in which John is the celebrated captain of the football team and Sherlock an outsider with no friends.

This fic is at the top of the list because it will be forever my favourite. It contains everything: humor, angst, slash, it makes me feel ALL the feelings. Every time a new chapter comes out I nearly faint. I have a thing for school!Aus.

The Theory of Narrative Causality (by Anonymous)

Sherlock is a well-known fanartist whose online antics always land him on fandom_wank. John’s a beloved BNF fanfiction author.Fandomception!

It made me laugh. Not only in my head but actually laugh out loud in front of my computer. And the whole time you read it you just want to /click all the goddamn links!!!/

Sherlock has become obsessed with his flatmate. Hypnotizing John to let Sherlock do what he likes seems the logical solution.

This fanfic gives you the chills, goose bumps and leaves you with a weird feeling for the rest of the day. But strangely that’s what makes it so good.

Never Have I Ever (by Hannelore-Grace)

Humor/Friendship, rated T, oneshot

What happens when Sherlock, John, Lestrade and Anderson play a drinking game?

Answer: One of the funniest fanfics ever.

John isn’t the most eloquent of men.

Beautifully written, a quick read that makes you all warm and fuzzy inside.

Of Snow and Giraffes and Fat Gits Called Mycroft (by moony)

Humor, PG-13, oneshot

For the kinkmeme promt: I don’t care why or how, but Mycroft has to move in to 221B for about a week. Sherlock is very DRAMATIC about this.

I like myself a good short humor fanfic. And I especially love this one. Gotta love Mycroft Holmes.

This is slash and nothing but slash, incredibly hot and apparently I have a thing for french dirty talk, don’t judge me.

Humor/Friendship, rated T, oneshot

For the kinkmeme promt: Sherlock in a sex shop. Maybe it’s for a case, maybe he has to replace his riding crop, maybe he’s just curious… I don’t care. Just have him in a sex shop poking around and asking questions to the bewildered shop assistants. May or may not include mortified John.

The description already says it, but this is just so hilarious, let me say it again: Asexual Sherlock Holmes in a sex shop. The effects can go from giggling to uncontrolled laughter.

Meet Me Inside (by wakeneve)

Drama/Angst, rated Explicit, 15 Chapters

John and Sherlock meet in prison. John becomes Sherlock’s prison-wife.

Warning: No happiness to find here, just violence and angst and hothothothot prison slash. Nevertheless written very good and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Humor, rated for general audiences, 1909 words

John is Sherlock’s internet boyfriend - from CANADA. No one thinks he’s real.

Does it need any more than that description to make you go and read it?

Flowers in a Box (by Samlicker113)

Adventure/Mystery, rated M, 14 Chapters

It’s impossible to sum up the story because there somehow isn’t really one. The worst and yet somehow funniest Sherlock fanfic there is. Lots of spelling and grammar mistakes. Lots of memorable quotes.

I know that everyone knows it already, I just wanted to have it in my list. It’s fandom-famous. Important: You have to read the last chapter for the maximum reaction.

Alone on the Water (by Madlori)

Angst, rated K, oneshot, major character death

Sherlock is diagnosed with a brain tumor.

If you haven’t read that you probably spend your fandom time under a stone or something. Ugly crying. There are songs written about this fic. THE fandom classic of all fandom classics.

It must be Christmas (by lemonolem)

Humor, PG-13, oneshot

For the kinkmeme promt: How about some Mystrade with Sherlock walkin in on them having teh sexy tiems. Or John. Or Sally. Or Anderson. Or all of them at the same time’

Impact  (by Elf)

Romance, NC-17, 3 Chapters

Impact: The action of one object coming forcibly into contact with another. (Lestrade gets hit on his motorbike by Mycroft’s driver.)

Elf writes the best Mystrade, it’s true. A wonderful romance with lots of feelings, you want them to get together so badly and when they do..well, it’s glorious. It was also the first Mystrade fic I ever read and made me ship it.

Haunted (by Elf)

Romance/Angst, NC-17, 6 Chapters + Epilogue

Everyone’s off to Mummy’s for Chrsitmas. No one could ever imagine what was about to happen.

This is the one where Lestrade is haunted by his past in which he was abused by Mycroft’s father. This is the one which gives you goose bumps and makes you tear up and this is the one you should definitely read if you sail this ship.

Jim Moriarty has many fantasies, some of which Sherlock would prefer not to be the object of.

Very descriptive, very violent, very hot. Jimlock is my OTP and rubberbird is the queen of slash, what can I say.

Reptilia (by Head-Like-A-Hole)

Angst/Romance, rated T, Chapter 7/?, in progress

School AU. WIP. Moriarty and Sherlock go to school together, Moriarty hates Sherlock. But there is much more than that. “Either you’re a psychopath, Jim Moriarty, or you suffer from an acute Reptilia complex.”

As I said, I love school!Aus and one for my OTP? Hmmmm..

Jim Moriarty is used to living a life on his own, that is until Sebastian Moran is transferred into his chemistry class and unwillingly become his lab partner. School/ Teen! AU. MorMor in later chapter.

School!Au, again. This one is especially brilliant and cute and I’m craving for the next chapters.

John’s been friends with Dave for years, but he still doesn’t know what he looks like. He’s determined to change that fact.

It’s funny, it’s smutty. This is the perfect mixture.

A Modern day Merlin AU set at the University of St Andrews, featuring teetotal kickboxers, secret wizards, magnificent bodyguards of various genders, irate fairies, imprisoned dragons, crumbling gothic architecture, arrogant princes, adorable engineering students, stolen gold, magical doorways, attempted assassination, drunken students, shaving foam fights, embarrassing mornings after, The Hammer Dance, duty, responsibility, friendship and true love…

Novel-length epicness that makes you feel all the feelings and me cry in the middle of the school bus (listening to the audiofic). A must-read for Merthur shippers.
